BBQ Earl Grey Chicken Kebabs
As the sun shines brightly overhead and the sweet aroma of charcoal fills the air, there's no doubt that summer is the perfect time for a delightful BBQ gathering. But what if we told you there's a secret ingredient that can take your grilling experience to a whole new level? Say hello to Earl Grey tea! In this blog, we'll explore the wonders of using Earl Grey as a rub for chicken kebabs, turning your backyard BBQ into a tantalizing culinary adventure.
Unleashing the Power of Earl Grey
Earl Grey tea, known for its distinct citrusy and floral flavor, is traditionally a beloved afternoon tea choice. However, its unique blend of black tea leaves infused with bergamot oil also makes it an unexpectedly marvelous ingredient for grilling. The aromatic notes of Earl Grey perfectly complement the savory nature of chicken, creating a harmonious symphony of flavors that will leave your taste buds wanting more.
Selecting the Chicken
For the best results, it's essential to start with quality chicken. Opt for boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, as they are easier to cube and thread onto skewers. Ensure the chicken is fresh and free from excess moisture for optimal absorption of the Earl Grey flavors.
Vegetable Pairing
Compliment your delicious chicken with your favourite vegetable. We recommend peppers (all the colours), zucchini, and also some onions which you can caramelized with some brown sugar!

BBQ Earl Grey Chicken Kebabs
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Italian herb seasoning
- 1 tbsp Teabloom Earl Grey tea
- 3-4 pcs. Boneless skinless chicken breast
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground Earl Grey tea, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Brown sugar is optional to add the subtle caramelized sweetness to the kebabs, balancing out the zesty notes of the Earl Grey.
- Cube the chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized cubes, ensuring uniformity for even cooking.
- Coat the chicken: Gently toss the chicken cubes in the Earl Grey rub, making sure each piece is thoroughly coated. Allow the chicken to marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Preheat the grill: Ensure your grill is preheated to medium-high heat, and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Thread the kebabs: Thread the marinated chicken cubes along with your favourite vegetables onto pre-soaked wooden or metal skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.
- Grill the kebabs: Place the kebabs on the preheated grill and cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges.
