White Vanilla Apple Sangria
The season of fall is so loved by many because its simply a cozy one. The season of cozy sweaters, crackling fires, and rich, comforting flavors. As the days grow shorter and the chill in the air deepens, it's the perfect time to swap out light summer drinks for something warmer, spicier, and full of autumn charm!
Enter the perfect fall sangria—a twist on the classic drink that features comforting flavors like apple vanilla tea, apple cider, and cinnamon. This white wine sangria is perfect for gatherings or a quiet evening by the fire.
Sangria’s roots can be traced back to ancient civilizations, particularly the Romans. During their conquests in the Iberian Peninsula, the Romans were big fans of mixing their wine with water and spices to make it more palatable and to purify the water they consumed. As wine spread through Europe, people began to mix it with whatever local fruits and spices were available, giving rise to countless variations. The drink we now call sangria derives from Spain, and the name itself comes from the Spanish word "sangre," meaning blood—an allusion to the drink’s typical deep red color when made with red wine.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, sangria became popular throughout Europe, but it wasn’t until the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City that it really took off in the United States. Spanish vendors served sangria to visitors, introducing Americans to this refreshing drink.
While traditional sangria is made with red wine, there are now many variations, including ones made with white wine, sparkling wine, and even rosé. It’s a flexible, adaptable cocktail, which is why it’s the perfect canvas for seasonal ingredients—like the ones we’re about to use in our autumn sangria!
