How To Store Your Teaware So It Stays Spectacular

Your tea party has come to an end and your guests are gone. Now, what? It’s time to pack away the leftovers and take care of your teaware.

It might be the last thing you want to do after hosting such a grand party. All you want is to kick up your feet, pour yourself a tea cocktail, and call it a night. But the party isn’t completely over until the goodies and teaware are out of sight and put away for safekeeping.

We’ll cover some of our favorite post-party tips so your teaware stays as sparkling new as when you first used it. First, we’ll start with washing — which is probably the most important step of this whole process.

Post Tea Party Cleanup

We know you’re tempted to take a breather — and you can for a little bit. But, try to clean up your serveware as soon as you can. Cleaning your teaware immediately can help maintain its longevity and prevent deeper stains from forming — that means the longer you wait, the more scrubbing you might have to do.

The Cleaning Basics

If you have a borosilicate glass tea set, you’re in luck because it’s the easiest tea set to care for. Unlike porcelain and other teaware materials, borosilicate glass is stain-free and super easy to clean. Most of the time, you can just toss your teaware in the dishwasher and call it a day.

But, wash your teawware with a soft sponge or cloth, warm water, and mild soap. This will take care of most hand-washing requirements for glassware and porcelain teaware.

The Rare Stain

The chances of having to scrub serious stains off your glass teaware are close to none. If you come across a rare stain, use a soft cloth or sponge with some mild soap to buffer it out. You can also use vinegar or the smallest touch of bleach mixed with water for the toughest stains.

Removing Stains from Porcelain and Glazed Teaware

If you’re using porcelain or glazed teaware, chances are tea will stain your cups and teapots to a point. If you want to remove the stains, scrubbing with a soft sponge, warm water, and some mild soap may work.

If stains are more stubborn, soak your teaware in a diluted bleach and water solution for 30 minutes or up to a few hours. You can also use vinegar, a baking soda/water solution, or even Barkeeper’s friend for extreme staining.

Addressing Limescale Buildup

If you live in a place that has hard water, you may experience mineral scale buildup, even with your borosilicate glass teaware. Whatever you do, don’t scrub the buildup because this can damage, scratch, or even break the glass. Use a liquid mineral descaler and follow the directions from the manufacturer — but whatever you do, don’t scrub the glass.

How to Dry Your Teaware

Don’t underestimate the power of properly drying your teaware. Your dishwasher may handle this for you, but even so, it can leave mineral streaks all over your teaware. If you want a complete streak-free sparkle, finish drying them by hand.

You can leave your washed teaware out to air dry, but you run the risk of streaks and spots. A lint-free cloth is one of the best drying tools you can use. Seek out microfiber cloths for drying wine glasses and fine stemware for a crystal-clear and sparkling finish.

Once you dry your glassware with your microfiber towel, set each piece to the side to finish air-drying completely. Likely, you didn’t get every single microscopic bit of water, which is okay. But you’ll want to keep your glassware out for about a half hour to prevent mold and mildew from forming.

How to Store Your Teaware

Cleaning and drying your teaware is the most important part of the battle and that should be done as soon as possible. But, you can take a little more time putting away your teaware. Take a breather and come back to this when you’re ready to store your tea set.

Boxing Your Fine China

If you have fine china or you’re using an heirloom set, consider wrapping each piece individually in padded storage bags, or even bubble-wrap layered with cardboard for extra support.

Fine teaware may be susceptible to high temperatures, so avoid storing them in your attic or garage. Keep the box in a cool, safe, dry place for safekeeping.

The Perks to Storing Borosilicate Serveware

If you have a borosilicate glass set, you can stow away your individually wrapped pieces in a box, similar to storing china or porcelain. Borosilicate glass is thermal shock resistant, so storing it in areas that get very cold or hot is not an issue. But, you can easily store it in a cabinet with little worry.

Borosilicate glass doesn’t have to be boxed. You can simply add these pieces to your regular daily rotation and use them alongside or in place of your current serveware. These pieces are made for more than just tea — you can use them for coffee, infused water, ciders, cocktails, and any beverage you’re craving.

If you haven’t looked into getting a borosilicate glass tea set, you may want to consider one simply because it’s so affordable and easy to use. Caring for a borosilicate glass tea set is easy because no scrubbing is required and you never have to worry about odd odors or tastes affecting your teaware — it’s an odor-free and taste-free material.
